In a renewed move to strengthen the health sector, the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), has reiterated its commitment to delivering quality primary healthcare services across the nation.

The announcement highlights the pivotal role of the NPHCDA in ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare for all Nigerians. This reaffirmation is part of the broader efforts to revamp the primary healthcare system, which is considered the bedrock of the nation’s health sector.

The NPHCDA, under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, is tasked with the implementation of policies that promote efficient service delivery at the grassroots level. With the injection of ₦65 billion into the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHPF), the government has taken a significant step towards improving infrastructure, equipment, and the availability of essential medicines in primary health centers across the country.

The agency also emphasized the importance of community involvement in sustaining the progress being made, calling on state and local governments, as well as development partners, to intensify collaboration for effective health service delivery.

This development is a beacon of hope for rural and underserved communities that rely heavily on primary health facilities. It aligns with the Federal Government's goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and reducing health disparities across the country.

As implementation unfolds, Nigerians are hopeful that the reforms will bring tangible improvements in maternal and child health, immunization coverage, and the management of common diseases at the primary level.
