North Sets Agenda for 2027: ADL Unveils Roadmap to End Marginalization
Northern leaders under the umbrella of the Arewa Defence League (ADL) have declared a bold plan to reposition the region ahead of the 2027 general elections. This followed a strategic Roundtable Discussion held at the Arewa House, Kaduna, where state coordinators, national directors, the FCT representative, and other stakeholders from across the North met to address what they described as decades of political and economic marginalization.
The session, themed “Addressing Current Northern Marginalization in Nigeria: Towards a Unified Strategy for 2027,” identified persistent disparities in federal appointments, budget allocations, infrastructural development, and security management, warning that the North has been relegated to the margins of national affairs.
Strong Resolutions Adopted
To reverse these trends, the Roundtable adopted far-reaching resolutions, including:
Drafting a Charter of Northern Grievances as a reference point for negotiations and advocacy.
Holding an Immediate Strategy Seminar within 30 days to articulate a common Northern position on key national issues.
Convening a Northern Stakeholders’ Conference within six months, to bring together traditional, religious, political, youth, and women leaders from all 19 states and the FCT.
Launching a non-partisan voter education and civic mobilization campaign to empower Northern citizens ahead of the 2027 elections.
Building strategic alliances with other regions for a fairer and more equitable Nigerian federation.
Towards a United Northern Front
In his remarks, ADL President Murtala Abubaker said the resolutions represent “a decisive shift in the North’s political strategy” and stressed the need for unity and strategic engagement to secure the region’s rightful place in Nigeria.
The communiqué, signed by Abubaker and Danladi Aliyu, Secretary of the Drafting Committee, declared the Roundtable as the starting point of a new journey that will culminate in a historic Northern Stakeholders’ Conference.
The ADL reiterated its commitment to protecting Northern interests while working for a truly just and united Nigeria.
